The Malt District will transform a former industrial site into an important and exciting cultural asset. Many of the world’s major cities have turned their abandoned industrial areas into vibrant, creative and compelling districts like New York’s Meat Packing District. Now we have our own.
The Malt District will create a popular new destination right in the heart of Cremorne. Restaurants and cafes will jostle on the fringe of the generously designed public spaces bring life to the precinct from morning through to late evening. Internal laneways and courtyards will encourage leisurely off-road lingering for passing walkers and cyclists.
The buildings on this site will be a combination of very strong and robust forms. The new buildings represent the core attributes of the older buildings, several of which will be retained. There will be great scale jumps within the site; low buildings jostling for position with structures of a much greater height. This in itself reflects an industrial site and this nod to legacy includes the singularity of purpose that unites the structures.
